METAVERSES
A metaverse is a three-dimensional, computer-made, online world, in which users can interact. These 3D worlds are popular with gamers, and are available for a wide range of uses, including online meetings and events, musical performances, displays and galleries for digital art, educational facilities and online stores. Two-dimensional websites can be enhanced by adding a third dimension. Instead of flat sites, where we scroll down and click on links, 3D sites allow for a radically different user experience, one which may be the norm in a few years.
Facebook recently generated much discussion about the metaverse when it rebranded as Meta. It remains to be seen whether Meta will simply be a 3D version of Web 2. Will Meta own the users or will the users own Meta? Fortunately, there are already decentralized metaverses, that are both Web 3 and 3D, appearing in cyber space! These include worlds which the users own, as digital assets on the blockchain.
These digital worlds are often divided into parcels, which are sold for crypto to individuals, who then own portions of these digital lands, where they are free to build whatever they desire. Already, a number of large corporations, such as Adidas and Gucci, celebrities like Paris Hilton, and even governments, have purchased land in blockchain metaverses. However many metaverse land owners are small businesses and individuals with ordinary budgets.
The metaverse is a social, economic and cultural frontier, about to explode synergistically as it meets the new world of Web 3.

The Sandbox
Where might you look, to acquire a prime piece of real estate? A fashionable district by Central Park, or perhaps Paris, along the Champs Elysees? If you are looking for the cyber space equivalent of such iconic locations, you might want to consider the Sandbox, where a number of prominent investors have recently purchased digital land. These include: Adidas, Gucci, the Smurfs, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Netflix series The Walking Dead, Warner Music Group, the legendary Bored Ape Yacht Club, the crypto exchange giant Binance, and the international banking giant HSBC. Add to that celebrities like Paris Hilton and Snoop Dogg. Even Dubai’s digital assets regulator, the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, has its metaverse headquarters in The Sandbox! At the same time, there are many individuals, with normal economic means, who own Sandbox parcels, and who are contributing to the creation of this metaverse.
The Sandbox is a voxel world, similar to Minecraft. A voxel is a small digital cube, which can be combined with other such cubes, and used to form computer images. Many fascinating environments have been created in this virtual world, and more are being developed. It is therefore exciting to announce that SurfWeb3.com, with its partners, will soon be developing virtual experiences and businesses in the Sandbox! We’ll keep you posted!
